Fri - drove up from Siena to Florence on small roads
dropped off the car
walked 1 km with all of our stuff. Loud and heavy.
checked into gorgeous hotel, the Antica Torre di via Tornabuoni

lazed about, showered. While the boys lounged about, Ted and I went out up to the roof and then out for a walk

very sunny and hot, hence the squint. I assure you, Ted was delighted.

View from the other rooftop garden, overlooking the Arno

We also took a 1 hour bus tour around Florence.

Replica of the David at the Michelangelo plaza, as seen from the top of the tour bus

the ancient Ponte Vecchio, spared by the retreating Nazis in 1942.
Legend has it that the word "bankrupt" came from words meaning to break the table, referring to the merchants' tables on this bridge that they used to display their wares.

We wanted to eat at Mozzarella bar but it wasn't open yet, so just ate nearby in via Tournaboni. Then we went out altogether for a night time walk. The Duomo in the dark = beautiful.
Saw Italians sitting outside in a plaza watching a movie in English
Saw a band playing outside the Academia

a portion of the Duomo, showing off how colorful and ornate the facade is
